Safe and sensitive reporting regarding the death of Bondi Rescue star and mental health advocate Matt Dee

Australian media professionals are reminded to apply Mindframe guidelines when reporting on the death of Matt Dee, including avoiding speculation on the cause of death before this has been confirmed by official sources.

Media professionals should also refer to and apply the Mindframe guidelines Reporting suicide and mental ill-health: A Mindframe resource for media professionals when discussing the suicide deaths and mental health diagnoses of Matt’s brother and sister.

When choosing quotes or details to include, it is important that suicide is not framed as an inevitable consequence of living with complex mental illness.

Support services

Media professionals are also reminded that inclusion of support service details is useful for reporting on any unexpected deaths that may impact the community as well as reporting related directly to suicide and mental health concerns.

A range of organisations are listed on our support services card below. Additional information on help-seeking is available by clicking on the card image.
